Biographical Text

Lorimer was the son of Reverend Robert Lorimer, a minister in the united free Church of Scotland and Isabella Lockhart Robertson. He married Marion Rose Gordon in 1915 and had one son, Robert Lewis Campbell Lorimer, with her. Lorimer attended Trinity college oxford. He was later a lecturer and professor at the University of St Andrews between 1910 and 1953.

Contribution

Most known for his Scots translation of the new testament from its original Greek which was finished posthumously by his son. He was very passionate about the scots language, studied scots vernacular speech and was actively trying to revitalize the declining Scots vernacular tongue. He also had various contribution to Latin and scots scholarship.

Misc

Attended military service during the first world war. He developed a fondness for Italy and was engaged in the protection of Italian prisoners of war after his stay there in 1904-5.
