The University of St Andrews was founded in 1413 with golf appearing in the town around the same time. How, why and when golf was first played in the town remains a subject of much debate with few certainties. What is certain, is that the 'gowf' and the University have sat side by side for many centuries.
The Library's Special Collections Division holds vast quantities of golf photographs, rare books, manuscripts and maps along with pricless treasures from the University's history.
